THE
MARKET The
Data Mark, Inc. views the
Northeast market place as about 15% of the total
national electronic or component market depending upon the actual
commodity. Although manufacturing has
moved to other states and other countries, engineering for the most part
is still located in the area. The area has
several distinct characteristics. First,
there is a broad base of diversity. Dominated
by manufacturers of computers and peripherals, many other identifiable
groups are present here. These
include military electronics, telecommunications, medical instrumentation,
test equipment electronics, machine & tool, process control, toys and
games manufacturers, intrusion alarm and smoke detector manufacturers,
power supply and magnetic manufacturers, and to a lesser degree audio and
small appliance manufacturers. Secondly,
there is a noticeable absence of, or minor representation by, several
industry groups including manufacturers of major appliance, home video,
automobile and trucks, recreational vehicles and aircraft, as well as the
household electronics, musical instruments and low cost stereo consumer
product manufacturers. A
third characteristic of the market is the concentration of component
consuming concerns to relatively well defined portions of New England.
Finally, it might be stated that climate, high cost of living and burdensome taxation tend to inhibit major growth. However, three facts are offset to a large degree by the high quality of the academic university atmosphere, along with the stimulating R & D resources and skilled technical labor pools available. Teh Northeast has its unique history and culture as well as many recreational advantages which attracts the professionals and college graduates seeking employment here. It is our observation that the future of the area for electronics and electronic components seems to be positive and we look for continued growth in these areas.
FUTURE
MARKET Diversity
is the key to success. The
movement from a local economy to a global economy has led Data Mark, Inc.
in search of markets that
will complement the new world focus. We see the new major areas,
alternative power, fiber optics and military should become even more
visible than they are today. Telecommunications
has felt a major downturn in recent years but we are seeing the early
signs of increased activities..
